Mother-in-law Humiliated Her Small-town Daughter-in-law At A Family Celebration, But When She Heard…
A Mother’s Devotion and a Son’s Rebellion
Deep down Vanessa Robinson was very proud of the fact that she raised her son alone. Having arrived in New York a few years ago from a provincial town lost in southern Pennsylvania, she achieved everything a woman of her age could dream of.
Vanessa had a handsome son Spencer, a big beautiful house on Park Street, as well as a good job that was perfect for her both financially and emotionally. Mrs. Robinson divorced her husband David many years ago when Spencer was only a year old.
This was partly due to the fact that Vanessa didn’t really love anyone except for her son who immediately became the meaning of her life. Mrs. Robinson had him later in life at the age when many mothers already have kids graduating high school.
Spencer was born when Vanessa was 42 years old. Unfortunately, Vanessa was in poor health when she was pregnant and so her son was born premature.
Most doctors didn’t even believe that Spencer would survive. Only his mother was convinced that he would make it and did everything humanly possible to ensure that her son’s condition stabilized.
Fortunately, thanks to the selfless care of his mother and the qualified help of his doctors, little Spencer managed to recover and win the battle for his life. Ever since then Spencer had become the center of the universe for Vanessa, the only person in the world who she believed was worth living for.
Since by that time Mrs. Robinson had already managed to build a successful career, she didn’t depend on her husband David financially and could provide herself and her son with everything they needed. Meanwhile David felt like he was assigned to the role of a biological father who wasn’t actually involved in raising his son.
This kind of attitude was probably what caused David to feel unwanted to the point that one morning he got up, packed his bags, and left Vanessa’s life forever. At first Mrs. Robinson was mortified as she was a very proud woman and being left by her husband was very undignified.
However, Vanessa quickly got used to the role of a single mother and devoted herself entirely to raising her son. It wasn’t all that difficult; while Spencer was a little kid he grew up as a smart and obedient boy who never caused problems for his mother.
But when Spencer reached his teenage years his character suddenly changed for the worse, having become wayward and quick tempered in an instant. The teenager caused his mother anxiety for several years to come.
Spencer’s reckless attitude to life was at its worst during his college years. It was then that the young man could stay out for several days at a time spending his nights in bad company, abusing alcohol.
The poor mother spent hours on the phone trying to get at least some information about her son’s whereabouts. Thinking about the past with apprehension, Vanessa looked back on those years with feelings of disapproval and dismay.
Spencer was repeatedly threatened with expulsion from the university. But every time the young man was saved by his mother who went to the dean and tearfully asked to give her son yet another chance.
An Unwelcome Addition to the Family
Fortunately, shortly before graduation Spencer finally got his act together. He started studying and even started making plans for the future.
It was then that he met a young woman who instantly stole his heart. Despite the fact that Vanessa Robinson had never seen her son’s girlfriend, she was 100 percent sure that Spencer had chosen a woman from a wealthy family.
Meanwhile, for some reason unknown to his mother, Spencer wasn’t in a hurry to introduce her to his girlfriend.
“When will I get to meet your girlfriend’s son?” asked Mrs. Robinson again.
“Don’t worry mom, it’ll happen only a little later,” Spencer answered.
Vanessa made an annoyed face and sighed sadly in response. Mrs. Robinson was frustrated because being a loving mother she was eager to finally get to meet the woman who stole her son’s heart.
Instead she kept getting all kinds of somewhat plausible excuses from her son as to why it couldn’t happen. Then one day Spencer finally brought his fiancee over to his mother’s house.
Vanessa Robinson prepared for this important event in advance. She wanted to show her future daughter-in-law her house in the best light.
However, when the door opened and Vanessa saw Spencer’s fiance for the first time, she couldn’t help but feel disappointed. The fact was that Spencer’s fiance clearly didn’t fit the image that Vanessa’s wild imagination had come up with.
As it turned out a little later, the woman’s name was Judy Morgan and she worked as a nurse in a private clinic. Vanessa only had a quick glance at the woman before realizing that her son’s fiance grew up in a poor family.
Judy was wearing a simple flower dress bought on sale and a cheap fox leather sandals. How could he have chosen someone like that although she does have a pretty face, Mrs. Robinson thought to herself.
Judy Morgan turned out to be a very modest young woman who listened attentively to the conversation at the table and never interrupted anyone. Sure, Judy immediately felt a chill emanating from the lady of the house, but she chose to ignore it so as to not ruin their potential relationship.
Vanessa Robinson also didn’t want to be rude and thus she tried to hide her disappointment under the guise of pretend cordiality. The rest of the evening didn’t go well and left an unpleasant aftertaste for the attendees.
It wasn’t until Judy had gone home that Vanessa decided to ask her son the hard question.
“Spencer, why do you want to get married to that poor woman? Sure I get that you might be attracted to her but I wouldn’t recommend starting a family with that nurse. What are her prospects? Is she going to be the queen of droppers and injections until the end of her days?” Vanessa asked.
