Cleaner Was Fired For Theft And Director Asked Her A Question. Her Answer Made Him Fall To His Knees
A Ray of Hope in the Bank
Lois Evans spent a long time searching for a job before she found a position that suited her. The hard part was the fact that the woman didn’t have an education and therefore she could only be considered for the most simple and low-paying offers.
At first, Lois was embarrassed to even enter the bank, which seemed like the standard of luxury and wealth to her. However, when she saw a help wanted sign on the front door saying that they were looking for cleaners, she decided to try her fortune.
Of course, the head of the HR department wasn’t exactly happy that the young woman already had a child whom she was raising without a husband. But on the other hand, the man understood perfectly well that the single mother really needed a job and therefore, after pausing to think about it for a second, he approved her application.
“Well, now I can finally treat my little Nancy to her favorite juice and some pastries,” Lois thought on her way home.
The young mother rented a small house on the outskirts of Detroit, which cost her most of her earnings. Luckily, the landlady lived next door and didn’t mind babysitting Nancy while her mother went from firm to firm looking for work.
The Orphanage and the Orphan’s Path
Mrs. Martin was a kind and sweet old woman who, despite her advanced age, always tried to help the unfortunate young woman who had no relatives and grew up in an orphanage. Lois didn’t remember her early childhood well.
All that she knew from the caretakers is that she ended up at the orphanage almost immediately after birth. It was rumored that Lois’s mother died after childbirth and there was no one else to take care of the baby.
The woman never knew her biological father and could only guess who he was in real life. “So I guess I’m following in my mother’s footsteps, let alone with the child in my care,” Lois thought with tears in her eyes.
The unfortunate woman couldn’t understand what caused her boyfriend to leave her shortly before the birth of their daughter. Most likely, Glenn Stewart was simply a bad person who had gotten scared of responsibility and decided to protect himself from such a burden.
But now that Lois got a job, there was a ray of hope in her life again. The woman wasn’t afraid of hard work and was more than ready to work up a sweat in order to succeed.
Diligence Amidst Disdain
To Lois’s surprise, her first day at the job was rather unpleasant. That was mainly because the bank employees treated the new cleaning lady with a touch of disdain as they believed that she was wasting her youth on such a low-paying job.
But the year spent at the orphanage taught Lois Evans to be resilient and therefore she didn’t let her sad thoughts prevent her from doing a great job. At first, most of the bank’s employees didn’t know the name of the new cleaner and preferred not to notice her in the hustle and bustle ever present in most financial institutions.
However, when the bank started shining with cleanliness, always having a fresh feeling about it, the staff started appreciating the zeal of Lois Evans. Her perseverance and diligence were especially appreciated by Samuel King, who had been working as the director of this bank for several years.
“You are a real wizard, Lois. Thanks to you, my geranium has bloomed for the first time in the last three years,” Mr. King remarked and looked warmly at the new employee.
At the same time, the director couldn’t understand why Lois’s face reminded him of someone. But no matter how much Samuel King thought about it, he couldn’t understand what exactly it was that seemed familiar.
The Director’s Young Wife
Therefore, having driven away the annoyed thoughts, the director closed the office and hurried home where his young wife was impatiently waiting for his return. Samuel and Kate met three years ago and, despite the age difference of almost 30 years, they decided to get married in just one month.
Smitten by his young wife’s beauty, Samuel King seemed to have found the very happiness that he had dreamed of for many years of his bachelor life. Of course, many of the banker’s acquaintances explicitly voiced their concern, saying that the young woman only married him for his money.
But the man was blinded by love and so he chose to believe that those claims were just speculations of envious people who weren’t as successful in life as he was. At dinner, Samuel would often tell his wife about his day at the office and what had been happening at the bank lately.
Of course, being the director, he couldn’t fail to mention the new young cleaning lady who worked real miracles at the office. Moreover, Samuel didn’t forget to mention how Lois transformed his own office which was now full of various plants.
Unfortunately, sharing the information about the cleaning lady with his wife, the man didn’t notice how angry the woman got, squinting her eyes and pursing her lips. “Who’s that new beauty at the office? She’s obviously got some kind of agenda and she started by charming my husband,” thought Kate.
“She probably wants to steal him from me and he’s so gullible that he wouldn’t even notice when it happens. I need to go to the office and see this cleaning lady myself,” thought Kate.
Secrets and Suspicions
The truth was that by the age of 25, Kate had already clearly understood what she wanted from life. So she wasn’t about to give up her status and financial freedom which came along with her mature banker husband.
Deep down, Kate had obviously no feelings for Samuel. She even started an affair immediately after the wedding, spending time with her lover whenever her husband went out of town on long business trips.
That’s why the cunning wife felt that the new cleaning lady would threaten her position in Samuel’s life. Meanwhile, Lois Evans continued to do a great job and didn’t even realize that she had already managed to make an enemy out of the director’s young wife.
Having long talks with Samuel King, the young woman realized that she felt very comfortable around this smart and sympathetic man. “I can’t shake off the feeling that I’ve seen you somewhere before, Lois, but I just can’t figure out where,” the banker said, smiling.
