Doctors Throw Elderly Out Of Hospital For Not Being Able To Pay. When His Son Arrives…
A Hospital in Crisis
Now, let’s continue. A week after the incident with the old man, St. Vincent’s Hospital experienced the beginning of a series of calamities. Could it be that one thing had something to do with the other?
First, an urgent call came from supply management. The main supplier had abruptly cut off all stock of antibiotics, vital for treating a wide range of infections.
“That’s impossible,” exclaimed the administrative manager as she checked the spreadsheets on her computer. “We’re in compliance with all the contracts in terms of service, aren’t we?”,
However, just a few hours later, another call came through—this time from the Department of Health. The regulatory body informed them that the hospital no longer had the necessary certification to carry out organ transplants, one of the most lucrative and essential services they offered. In addition, an audit of the hospital’s accounts was pending, based on some financial discrepancies that they refused to elucidate over the phone.
The hospital managers, after days of watching the ship sink, called an emergency meeting which included all the departments and, of course, the doctors and other staff,. The conference room was tense, charged with a mixture of confusion, anger, and sheer fear.
“Thank you all for coming on such short notice,” began George, the CEO. “Well, I’ll get straight to the point. You all know about the disaster that has befallen us, right? But I want to tell you that we found out what happened to our suppliers and why we’re drowning.”
Everyone was on the edge of their seats, all eyes fixed on the man as if trying to read the answer in his expression before he said it,.
“What could it be?” they murmured.
Then he continued.
“We have received communications from our suppliers and also from the Department of Health. The only requirement for us to return to normal is to fire Dr. Jonathan Manes, Dr. Peter James, and Dr. Sarah Vasconcellos,” he finished, looking directly at the doctors in question.
The three of them stared in disbelief. How could all the misfortune that had befallen the hospital be connected to them in any way?
“What? Why?” they asked in a single sound, terrified.
The CEO’s Revelation
But before they could ask another question or even fully process the information, George continued.
“To be clear, we’re not just talking about a recommendation. We’re talking about a contractual stipulation that was activated due to our failure to uphold ethical and patient care standards. And this was all traced back to the incident involving Mr. Emil Gonzalez,” he explained.
A deafening silence filled the room,. The doctors in question realized, in a moment of brutal clarity, that their actions had consequences far beyond what they could have imagined. It wasn’t just one patient they had failed; it was the hospital itself, their colleagues, and, more broadly, the entire community they served.
“Emil?” everyone asked in disbelief. The news was shocking.
“You have until the end of the day to clear your desks and hand in your credentials. HR will provide you with all the necessary details,” concluded the CEO, ending the meeting and, indeed, the careers of the three doctors at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Jonathan, Peter, and Sarah were stunned, trying to process the man’s words.
“Wait, wait, wait! What happened? Why? What did we do wrong?” exclaimed Dr. Jonathan, his voice shaking.
George looked at them sternly and said that they had kicked Emil Gonzalez from the hospital, that his son was furious and demanded that the administration fire them; otherwise, he would use his influence to close the hospital. A shiver ran through the three doctors’ bodies,.
“So it was true? He had a son?” murmured Sarah, feeling a lump in her throat.
“Who the hell was that old man? He looked like a nobody, and we looked him up—he didn’t even have a son,” said Peter, confused and scared.
