Hurrying To Get Home, The Ex-convict Paid The Fare For The Old Man, And A Day Later…
The police officer was standing at a little distance from them. He winked at Naomi and said that she definitely had nothing to be afraid of.
“And what do I actually have to lose? I should go and see what Mr. Collins has to offer,”
The woman thought to herself and agreed to go with the man.
As it turned out a little later, Charles Collins was taking Naomi to see his son, who was a successful businessman and lived outside the city in a large and comfy house.
The Family Secret
On their way over, the old man told Naomi what he was too shy to tell her when they first met. Ten years ago, Charles Collins had a fight with his son because he was too busy to come to the funeral of his own mother.
That fight resulted in the fact that the old man and his son fell out of touch with each other. Time passed inexorably, counting down the days, months, and years.
It’s hard to say how long the fight between father and son would have lasted if James Collins hadn’t gotten into a terrible car accident six months ago which almost cost him his life.
Having learned about what happened, Charles Collins dropped everything and hurried to see his son. The doctors did everything they could, but the young businessman still ended up in a wheelchair.
James’s wife took this news very calmly, which the businessman’s father found very suspicious.
“Don’t get me wrong Naomi but Nicole doesn’t seem to care about my son at all. He needs to get ready for the surgery but he doesn’t get any support from his wife. The house is always a mess and there’s never any food there so I decided to offer you a job as a maid at his house,”
Charles Collins said.
Naomi took a moment to think about it. On the one hand she really needed the job, but on the other hand she was afraid to disappoint the old man’s son who might find the fact that she was an ex-con somewhat disturbing.
Realizing that the old man was waiting for her to answer, the woman weighed all the pros and cons in her head and decided to go for it.
“Thank you dear, I knew you wouldn’t let me down especially after what you did for me on that bus,”
The old man said with tears in his eyes.
A Hostile Welcome
Naomi was very impressed with James’s house. It was a huge mansion with marble columns, stucco on the walls, and an ivy covered attic.
James made an impression of a kind and courteous person from the moment they met. But for some inexplicable reason, his wife Nicole seemed to have disliked the new maid immediately.
“Who is she Mr. Collins? Some ex-con? Where did you find her? I’m sure it was in some homeless shelter full of druggies,”
Nicole said, pursing her lips touchily.
Charles Collins advised Naomi to ignore his daughter-in-law’s grumbling and just do her job. Truth be told, Naomi had no desire whatsoever to get into any kind of arguments with the woman, so she simply pretended to not hear any of Nicole’s comments about her.
Back in prison, Naomi had to deal with way more complicated situations, so she had no problem ignoring one annoying woman.
Keeping the young businessman’s house in perfect order, the maid couldn’t help but start noticing things that were usually hidden from the prying eyes of outsiders.
First of all, Naomi was very surprised by Nicole’s behavior. She treated her husband as if he had already died and all that was left for her to do was to get her inheritance.
Knowing that James needed to get surgery, the woman deliberately dissuaded the businessman from doing so, thereby dooming him to the miserable existence of a disabled person.
“Why is she doing this? Does she like seeing her husband in a wheelchair?”
Naomi was lost.
A Deadly Conspiracy
The young maid didn’t even suspect that the solution to this mystery was very close, and it was enough to look around to get the answer to her question.
Naomi found out the truth a little bit later when she accidentally overheard the conversation between Nicole and her personal driver, David.
“Well how much longer do I have to wait? I got what you needed,”
The man asked, sounding irritated.
Nicole blushed to the very roots of her hair, then took the driver by the hand and whispered.
“Be patient honey. Do you see that the house is always full of strangers and then there’s also this maid always sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong? We’ll get rid of James, I’ll get all his money and we’ll go live our happily ever after,”
She whispered.
The driver looked annoyed, but then he said something that made Naomi feel very uncomfortable.
“I did my part. I cut your hubby’s brakes for him to crash but James survived. Now I got the poison. I just hope it’ll work out better this time otherwise I’m afraid we have to break up,”
He said.
Barely managing to suppress a surprise scream, the young maid hastened to hide in the next room to make sure that the lovers didn’t find out that she overheard their conversation.
Only then did Naomi realize that she was in a real snake lair which could turn deadly at any moment. Of course, she couldn’t risk James’s life, so the first thing she did was tell him everything she knew.
Justice and New Beginnings
Charles Collins was also present during that conversation. The old man’s face became darker with every word the woman said.
“So that’s the kind of woman you married son. I think we need to turn to the police as soon as possible. Let these lowlives get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for everything they did,”
The old man said.
Having listened to the maid’s story, James Collins shared his father’s opinion and was very grateful to Naomi for her help and participation.
During the time the young maid was in the house, the businessman managed to grow attached to her and her charming voice.
Having turned to the police in time, James didn’t only prevent an attempted murder but also saved society from a couple of criminals who could have committed other crimes later.
After Nicole got arrested, Naomi could finally feel comfortable doing her job and pay more attention to the young businessman’s health problems.
It was Naomi who insisted that James agree to get the surgery which could return him to normal life.
“Everything will be fine you just have to believe in yourself and your doctors and never lose heart,”
Naomi said before the surgery and hugged the businessman by the shoulders.
Even though the surgery went well, James still had to go through a long physical therapy course after it, during which he needed the support of his friends and family.
It just so happened that it was Naomi who became the very person who helped the young businessman through all the hardships associated with this treatment and rehabilitation.
Watching how affectionately the woman was taking care of his son, Charles Collins couldn’t hold back his tears.
After all, if he hadn’t gotten on that bus and hadn’t lost his ticket, none of this would have happened and James’s life would have been much more tragic, if not over already.
About six months after the above mentioned events, Naomi and James held a beautiful wedding ceremony which surprised many residents of the city with its magnitude.
It was rumored that they rushed to get married because the bride was already pregnant, which would make the best gift for her fiance.
Only time will tell whether those rumors are true. In the meantime all we can do is rejoice at the happiness of this beautiful couple and wish them a long and happy life together.
