I Kept Hearing Phantom Laughter In My House Every Night. My Husband Said I Was Crazy. Then I Found The Hidden Recording Device.
A Troubling Forgetfulness
Linda stretched sweetly in bed, shaking off the remnants of her dream, and went into the kitchen to make breakfast for her husband. Howard loved starting his morning with bacon and eggs and a cup of strong coffee.
Being an attractive and caring wife, Linda never forgot it and always tried to please her husband. However, the woman had recently started noticing some oddities in her behavior.
According to Howard, there was something clearly wrong with Linda. Those oddities were most often manifested in the fact that she started forgetting things she used to always remember well.
For example, she could leave the stove on when she was shopping, all the while being confident that she had turned it off. Moreover, going over it in her head, Linda could swear that she had definitely turned off the stove before leaving.
Over the past month, it happened at least three times, which alarmed her husband. In all these situations, the only reason the house didn’t catch fire was the fact that, for some reason or another, Howard happened to come home just at the right time.
Last time, the dish Linda left on the stove had already burned down, and the fire could have spread to the walls and the kitchen furniture at any second.
“Honey, you can’t allow things like that to happen. You’ve become very distracted lately. It’s getting dangerous. I think you should see a doctor,” Howard said anxiously.
Linda only shrugged her shoulders in response and promised to be more attentive.
“But I’m only 30 years old. Could I really be starting to have problems with my memory?” The woman thought, looking at her reflection in the mirror.
Linda and Howard had been married for six years and were raising their five-year-old daughter, Gina. Despite the fact that Linda grew up in a poor family, by the time she got married, she had already become rather successful, working as a senior manager in the sales department of a large trading company.
Howard and Linda met accidentally. At that point, they couldn’t have even imagined that they would move in together in just a few months. Their decision to get married so quickly was partly due to the fact that Howard’s parents liked Linda very much.
It just so happened that Pamela and Simon Green approved of their son’s choice right away.
“Our boy has changed so much with you. He used to be a slob, spending his time in restaurants and drinking way too much,” Howard’s mother never ceased to repeat.
Hearing Pamela’s words, Linda usually blushed and lowered her eyes in embarrassment. But now, Linda was ashamed to admit, even to herself, that she started forgetting the very basic things.
Just yesterday, she put the clothes away in the closet, and now they were scattered around the room once again. Or the other day, Linda cooked lasagna for her husband, although he claimed to have asked her to make her signature roast chicken.
It all seemed so strange that if Linda weren’t born a skeptic, she would have certainly believed in the existence of a poltergeist or some other evil forces.
