I Paid A Homeless Orphan To Attend My Son’s 7th Birthday Party. I Woke Up The Next Morning And Found Them Both Missing. Did I Just Hand My Son Over To A Kidnapper?
A Birthday Without Joy
Richard Morgan’s house was bustling since the early morning; it was his 7-year-old son’s birthday and the loving father wanted everything to be perfect. Several dozen helium-filled inflatable balloons hung over his house like a miniature fairy tale airship.
Joyful music was heard in every corner of the house, and the tables were laden with the most delicious treats prepared by the Morgan family’s home chef. Everything seemed perfect except for the fact that the birthday boy’s eyes were devoid of any sign of joy.
Kevin had long grown accustomed to the luxurious life, and none of what was happening seemed like anything special to him. The boy’s main problem was his disease, which had put him in a wheelchair.
The Trauma of the Past
Thinking back to how it happened, Richard couldn’t hold back his tears. Kevin’s mother had passed away when he was just one year old. The little boy didn’t remember her and only knew her from the photographs.
His father was everything to little Kevin. Unfortunately, trying to make sure his son was never in need of anything, Richard had to work a lot and virtually lived at the office.
On the other hand, the Morgan family’s income grew fast, which couldn’t but please the head of the family. But as we all know, everything in life comes with a price, and often the cost of success in wealth turns out to be disproportionately high.
The Robbery
One day while Richard was at work, his house was robbed. Masked robbers picked the lock and broke inside his home. They tied Kevin’s nanny, sat him down next to her, and ordered him to keep quiet.
They tore the house apart looking for money and valuables. Eventually, the intruders left, leaving behind broken furniture and a terrible mess as a memento of their visit.
Having involuntarily become witnesses to such a dreadful incident, Kevin closed up and stopped talking. As if that wasn’t enough, the stress from the robbery was so intense that the boy lost his ability to use his legs and stopped walking.
A Psychological Barrier
Initially, Richard thought that the cause of this problem was a physical injury inflicted on his son by the intruders. However, the nanny’s testimony disproved this theory. In reality, no one had laid a finger on Kevin, and his ailment stemmed entirely from psychological issues.
According to the doctors who conducted Kevin’s examination, the boy simply stopped perceiving reality. Richard asked anxiously during yet another one of his son’s medical examinations:
“So what does this mean? My son simply doesn’t want to talk or walk like a normal child?”
“Well, I wouldn’t exactly put it this way, Mr. Morgan. Psychosomatics is a serious matter. Your son needs time to recover from his traumatic experience. Let him figure things out on his own,” the doctor replied.
Richard shook his head but didn’t challenge the specialist’s advice. It had been a year since their last conversation, and some changes in Kevin’s behavior were starting to appear.
A Father’s Determination
He started speaking again, stopped crying at night, and didn’t seem as afraid as he was before. However, the boy still couldn’t fully return to his normal life. It was primarily because of the wheelchair which he used to move around the house and the surrounding area.
Kevin never started walking again, which deeply troubled his father. Endless medical tests and examinations yielded no results, and Richard’s own attempts to start motivating his son to walk again failed.
To the businessman’s credit, he didn’t give up and continued to seek new ways to combat Kevin’s mental illness. That day, all Richard was thinking about on his way home from work was how he could help his son open up and regain his previous abilities.
A Chance Encounter
Stopping by the store to get a couple of packs of soda for a party, the businessman was about to go inside when he saw a girl of about 7 years holding a cardboard box. The handwritten inscription on it stated that the girl was asking for money to get food because she was an orphan and never knew her parents.
To make people more inclined to help her out, the girl was doing a little dance and singing some simple song from a cartoon. Startled, Richard froze in place and looked at the little girl.
His heart skipped a beat, and sweat appeared on his forehead. Then he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a $100 bill.
“Here, take it. Get yourself something delicious,” he said.
“Thank you, sir. You are so kind. People don’t usually give me more than a dollar. It’s a whole fortune,” the girl replied.
A Unique Proposition
Her words sparked a very interesting thought in Richard’s mind. What if he invited her to Kevin’s party? Let her play with him, tell him about her life?
Perhaps his son would get distracted and have some fun. Richard liked his idea so much that he decided not to put it off and immediately voiced it to the little girl.
“Listen, how would you feel about coming to my son’s birthday party? His name’s Kevin and I’m Richard. Richard Morgan. I live nearby. You’ll play with Kevin, tell him a few stories, and I’ll pay you for it. Trust me, you can earn much more this way.”
The girl pondered and looked at the businessman with suspicion; was he joking? Then she glanced at the $100 bill in her hands and understood that it was all very real.
Molly Visits the Mansion
Richard noticed the doubt in the girl’s eyes but didn’t insist. He let the girl make her own decision, and she did.
“Okay, I agree. I’ll come to your son’s party, but I won’t stay longer than a day. Is that okay?”
Richard smiled. “That’ll be fine. All right, get in the car. By the way, what’s your name?”
“Molly. Molly White, sir.”
The businessman nodded and helped the little girl into the car. Then he started the engine, and the powerful SUV darted away. Throughout the journey, Molly didn’t utter a single word and just stared out the window, memorizing the way.
