I Work At An Orphanage, And A 5-year-old Boy Just Walked In Who Is The Spitting Image Of My Deceased Son. I Investigated His Family History And Uncovered A 15-year-old Lie. What Should I Do?
Thanks to the information she got from Mr. Gray, the old woman found the address of the woman who brought Lewis to the orphanage. She lived in a nearby town in a small, lopsided house. Charlotte decided not to put things off and went to see Samantha Ramirez the very next day.
As it turned out, she was Lewis’s great-aunt; she took the baby in for a while after her cousin had died. “What about the boy’s father? Why is there no information about him?” Charlotte asked cautiously.
“Well, they broke up even before Lewis was born. My cousin Rachel was never good at reading people. I never would have had a baby with a man who worked as a janitor,” Samantha answered without hiding her contempt.
Her last words made Charlotte shudder as she realized that she was on the right track. “A janitor? Do you know where Lewis’s father works? Why didn’t you contact him and explain the situation? It would be much better than depriving the boy of his father,” the old woman noted.
Samantha Ramirez’s face clearly showed that she disagreed. Fortunately, she chose not to start a fight and simply said that she didn’t want to have anything to do with that janitor. “He works at the city park, the one behind the city hall. See that red brick building? The park is right behind it,” Samantha threw in parting and slammed the door.
The old woman sighed sadly and slowly wandered in the direction indicated by the quarrelsome old woman. Approaching the park, Charlotte Brown couldn’t help but feel very agitated. Of course, the woman didn’t really hope that she’d be able to catch the janitor at his workplace.
But when Charlotte walked through the concrete arch of the gate, she saw a man in his 30s dressed in overalls. The janitor was quite skillful with the broom and the rakes, putting the fallen leaves in a plastic bag.
The janitor’s face seemed familiar to Charlotte. Having come closer, she involuntarily admired the strong, tall man. Seeing the old woman in front of him, the janitor froze and raised an eyebrow questioningly. “Is there anything I can help you with, ma’am?” The sound of his voice made Charlotte wince.
“You’re Kevin! You’re my son, Kevin!” the old woman exclaimed.
Tears came streaming down Charlotte’s face when she noticed a small scar on the man’s neck which he got back when he was little. “Kevin had the same scar; he got it when he fell off a tree,” Charlotte whispered, still unable to understand what was going on.
The janitor just stood there looking into the eyes of the old woman who had just called him her son. Suddenly, the man got dizzy. Unable to handle the memories that started flooding his mind, he grabbed his head in pain. Only now did Kevin remember what was hidden from him behind the protective barrier of memory for so many years.
The images and visions came rushing in. The man remembered everything that happened to him 15 years ago, and he did have a lot to remember. He remembered the strong current, how he hit his head on a rock, and the shack of an old beggar located many miles down from Kevin’s home.
Kevin lost his memory from the blow and came to his senses only two days later in the shack of a homeless fisherman who found the teenager on the shore. The lonely old hermit immediately liked the boy, thinking that he could make an excellent assistant one day. Therefore, he deliberately deceived Kevin and told the boy that he was his son.
Of course, the man was taking a great risk because the teenager’s memory could have returned at any moment. But on the other hand, the homeless man was tired of being alone all the time, and therefore he decided to take the risk. Thus, through no choice of his own, Kevin shared his life with the homeless man.
By an evil twist of fate, his memory never returned, most likely because Kevin never came across anything or anyone from his past. If the man ended up back in his hometown, the familiar faces and places would have certainly helped him get his memory back. Be that as it may, Kevin was forced to live someone else’s life all these years, not even suspecting that he had his own.
And now, having remembered everything, the man looked at his mother who was 15 years older and couldn’t believe that it was all happening for real. During these 15 years, Kevin didn’t only grow up into an adult but also met the love of his life, whom he then lost because of his own stupidity and jealousy.
Imagine the man’s surprise when he had discovered that he had a five-year-old son, Lewis. “Oh my God, are you sure? I didn’t even suspect that Rachel was pregnant. That’s an unexpected twist,” Kevin exclaimed with tears in his eyes.
Having finally hugged her son after so many years, Charlotte Brown couldn’t be happier. For 15 long years, the woman tried to get used to the idea that her husband and son were gone forever and that she was left all alone in this world. In fact, Kevin wasn’t only alive, but he even had a son who unwittingly helped the Brown family reunite by having appeared at the orphanage where Charlotte worked.
Having taken his mother by the hand, Kevin walked to the bus stop with her. More than anything in this world, the man wanted to meet his little son who was waiting for his dad at the orphanage.
The meeting between Lewis and Kevin was very emotional. Having picked up his son, the new father felt like the happiest person in the world. Looking at Lewis’s joyful face, Charlotte was 100% sure that Kevin would do everything to ensure that the boy was never in need of anything.
The ways of the Lord are inscrutable, and this amazing story is yet another confirmation of that. Being apart for a year or 15, one should never forget that separation will always come to an end, and sooner or later, hindered souls will certainly find each other again.
