“Where am I supposed to get that kind of money?” Evelyn whispered, clutching her head.

She was barely managing to survive on mere cents as it was, and now she also needed to find a huge amount to pay for her brother’s surgery. Having decided to try her luck at the city’s charitable foundation, Evelyn was faced with a new problem. It turned out that there were quite a lot of kiddos seeking assistance, and naturally there weren’t enough donations to help everyone.

Evelyn even tried to borrow money from Glenn, but her devious ex-boss didn’t just refuse to help her out but even made fun of her for reaching out to him. The young woman was desperate. She was about to give up when Francis came to see her. He was holding a small leather bag.

A Miracle in a Leather Bag

“What’s in it? Some compromising evidence?” Evelyn asked quietly.

“No, it’s money. There’s enough to cover your brother’s surgery. I received an inheritance from my second cousin in England, so I decided to help you,” Francis muttered timidly.

Finding it hard to believe what she just heard, Evelyn took the bag and carefully looked inside. There were several dozen bundles of money in tight bank packaging. Tears started streaming down Evelyn’s cheeks. She hugged Francis and buried her face in his shoulder, weeping softly. Only this time, there were tears of joy, not sadness.

The very next day, Evelyn transferred the money to the hospital where her little brother was supposed to get treatment. Liam went into surgery, and Evelyn and Francis stayed in the waiting room the whole time with fear, hoping for a successful outcome of the operation. Fortunately, everything went well, and the surgeons literally gave the baby a second chance at life.

A New Beginning

Now that Liam’s health was no longer in danger, Evelyn was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief and think about herself for once. Francis couldn’t pass up an opportunity, so he proposed to the woman he loved right there in front of the hospital waiting room. Looking into the hopeful eyes of the young man, Evelyn didn’t torment him with uncertainty and immediately said yes.
