My Ceo Fiancé Dumped Me While I Was Pregnant With Triplets Because Of A Fake Photo. Now He Is At My Door Begging To Meet His Kids. Should I Let Him In?
Returns and Memories
Sarah was walking down the street, trying to remember where her late grandfather’s house was located. How many months had it been since she was there last? 5, 10, maybe even a whole year?
Walking was hard on Sarah, so she had to stop every 10 yards to catch her breath.
“It’s okay, just a little bit more. Look, you can already see the house, the one with the Red Roof.”
Sarah tried to keep her spirits up. Her noticeably rounded belly didn’t allow her to walk properly. It made sense, since she was already in her second trimester and experiencing triplets, no less. It was a rather rare case, even within the whole state.
At this stage of pregnancy, long walks had already become a rather challenging task for Sarah. Having approached Grandpa Charles’s house, Sarah paused for a moment, then pulled out a bunch of keys from her pocket. The lock refused to yield, and it took her a lot of effort to open it.
The house turned out to be quite dusty and musty, but once upon a time, everything was completely different. Grandpa Charles had spent a long time at a ranger squad, protecting the local wildlife from poachers.
Sarah remembered well the times when she was little; she used to swim in the river and build shelters from spruce branches with the other local kiddos. It was Sarah herself who made the decision to move to a bigger city by the time she finished school. The only thing her peers would talk about were the limitless possibilities of the metropolis.
Life in the Big City
Sarah’s parents had died in a fire at a timber factory, and for many years, the parental role in Sarah’s life was played by Grandpa Charles Clark. He raised her as if she were a boy. He taught her to ride the horse and wilderness orientation skills.
He also helped her overcome her fear and learn to handle a rifle. No, not for hunting, of course; Charles despised hunting with all of his heart. It was more for general knowledge so that Sarah could defend herself in the wild in case of danger.
But all that knowledge remained in the past when Sarah moved to the big city. There, everything was completely different. The frenzied pace of life in the metropolis was confusing and didn’t seem to let her focus on one thing.
Finding a job turned out to be Sarah’s main problem. She didn’t want to work as a waitress at a roadside cafe, nor did she want to learn the trade of a salesperson in a 24-hour shop. Being naturally reserved, she tried to avoid crowds and sought a relatively calm job for herself.
So when Sarah saw an ad for a cleaning vacancy posted on the door of one of the local firms, she realized that she couldn’t miss such an opportunity. The HR employee looked disapprovingly at the slender young woman but didn’t turn her away.
It didn’t really make much of a difference who’d be cleaning the floor at the office, as long as the boss was satisfied. Most of the details could be overlooked. Everything went well initially; Sarah worked very hard and quickly earned respect from the other employees.
Office Politics and Romance
“The new cleaning lady seems decent, a dedicated employee, and she doesn’t look half bad,” the head of the sales department, Jason Witman, said.
Brandon nodded mechanically and went back to going through the monthly reports. The thing was that the company’s revenues had noticeably declined lately. There were no apparent reasons for this, and Brandon understood it better than anyone else.
He took over the company when his father decided to retire and focus on simpler things in life. Jason, on the other hand, had recently joined the company and quickly gained a reputation as an incorrigible bachelor and ladies’ man.
It was rumored that apart from women, he loved playing poker, devoting almost all of his free time to this ruinous passion. Jason and Brandon used to go to the same university, so they’d known each other since their student years. No, they weren’t friends really, but when Jason came to Brandon and asked him for a job, the old acquaintance didn’t turn him down and provided him with a decent position at his firm.
Of course, Sarah didn’t know any of this at the time and worked tirelessly to keep the firm’s premises clean and tidy. Time flew by imperceptibly, rushing through the sheets of the tear-off calendar.
Overall, Sarah liked her job, so she didn’t even think about looking for a new place. Perhaps it would have remained that way if Brandon hadn’t decided to throw a party right at the office one day to celebrate the upcoming Independence Day.
Since all the employees were supposed to attend, Sarah received an invitation along with everyone else. As it turned out, the young cleaning lady didn’t have an appropriate outfit, so she had to rush to the store to get something on sale.
The Party That Changed Everything
Brandon spared no expense on organizing the party, and everything turned out even better than he expected. At the party, he saw Sarah in a completely different light. The young woman wore a simple dress that beautifully accentuated all the advantages of her figure.
Brandon simply couldn’t tear his gaze off of her. Perhaps the reason behind his excessive attention was one too many glasses of martini, but Brandon believed that it was love at first sight. He had only ever seen Sarah in her work uniform before, which depersonalized and deprived her of her individuality. But everything was completely different at the party.
“Would you care to dance with me?” Brandon asked gallantly.
Sarah’s cheeks blushed. “Of course, Mr. Johnson.”
“It’s just Brandon. Today we’re at a party, after all.” Sarah smiled, and soon they were waltzing around the room amidst the thunderous applause of the other attendees.
There was only one person who didn’t clap and didn’t share the general excitement. Jason looked at Brandon with hatred and resentment in his eyes. He’d been showing Sarah all sorts of attention for weeks, intending to break the heart of another unsuspecting young woman. But all of his efforts turned out to be in vain.
Sarah felt a wave of negativity emanating from Jason and did her best to avoid any excessive interaction with him. But Brandon—Brandon was different. He didn’t want to humiliate or hurt her. The young businessman’s feelings seemed sincere; it read in his eyes.
It was after that memorable evening that the relationship between Sarah and Brandon was born, which seemed beyond unexpected to everyone around them. The owner of the company was dating the cleaning lady; what could be more absurd? But Brandon had already lost his head to passion.
Jason’s Revenge
The universally recognized ladies’ man, Jason, wanted revenge. In his twisted mind, he convinced himself that Sarah had humiliated him when she rejected all of his advances in front of everyone.
“Okay fine, we’ll see how your relationship goes when Brandon’s father finds out about it,” Jason gritted through his teeth.
The man’s plan was beyond simple. Upon learning about his son’s relationship with the woman from a poor family, Michael Johnson got furious.
“How do you intend to explain this, son? Why did I just learn from some stranger about your affair with some cleaner? You don’t expect us to welcome her into the family, do you?”
“Dad, I’m an adult. I can choose who I want to have a relationship with,” Brandon retorted.
Of course, he realized his response sounded a lot harsher than was necessary. But how could he control himself when his father was trying to make decisions about his personal life for him?
Seeing that Brandon didn’t intend to break things off with Sarah, Jason came up with a cunning plan and attempted to separate the lovers using an alternative approach. The man slipped some of the company business documents into Sarah’s purse and told the security guard to check.
“I expect you to find something interesting there. Otherwise, get ready to say goodbye to your job,” Jason added as an incentive.
The guard nodded and did everything as requested by the head of the sales department. However, once again, Jason didn’t achieve the expected effect. Brandon didn’t even see it as an act of betrayal on Sarah’s part and simply believed that it was some kind of mistake.
Sarah, on the other hand, couldn’t understand how important documents ended up in her purse. Jason literally turned green with anger.
“No way, you’re not getting rid of me this easy. You don’t care about anything but her. Oh no, I’m sure that’s not the case.”
