My Mother-in-law Tried To Drug My Tea To Make Me Look Insane. I Saw Her In The Mirror And Switched The Cups. Then I Announced My Miracle Pregnancy.
An Unexpected Romance
It just so happened that having come into the cafe as mere acquaintances, Linda and Jacob left it as good friends, much to Ethan’s delight. A week passed, during which the young people talked on the phone almost every day.
Then Jacob started showing even more interest in Linda. At first, Linda couldn’t understand what was driving this increased attention; however, when Jacob invited her out on a date, everything fell into place.
Jacob turned out to be a very attentive suitor, which helped him quickly win Linda over. From that moment on, the young people started dating. Trips to fancy restaurants, movie theaters, and cafes replaced each other in a kaleidoscope of joyful experiences and pleasant moments.
Their relationship was quickly progressing towards marriage, and it seemed like nothing could stand in the way of their happiness. Unfortunately, that was not the case. It was primarily due to Jacob’s mother’s attitude towards her future daughter-in-law.
“Son, why on Earth did you choose this pauper, and with the child too? Don’t you have enough options among women of your social standing?”
Jacob looked at his mother with clear disapproval. Barbara Nelson had always had a nasty temper, and it was always very hard to make her happy. To be honest, she didn’t like Linda from the very moment they met.
If Barbara had had any choice, she wouldn’t have allowed this ragged woman anywhere near her son, but Jacob firmly stood his ground and refused to be swayed by his mother.
The wedding went surprisingly smoothly. There were many guests, most of whom were there to celebrate with the groom. The restaurant was filled with the atmosphere of joy and happiness, with only Barbara Nelson casting hateful glances at her daughter-in-law.
The problem was that Barbara had long had her eye on a lucrative match for her son, but her plans were never destined to come true.
“That’s who Jacob needs: Monica, the daughter of a wealthy oil magnate. With these connections, his business income would soar. Instead, he married that woman with another man’s child,” Barbara lamented.
Of course, she never voiced this aloud and skillfully concealed her emotions.
A Devious Plot
Meanwhile, Barbara had already established warm and friendly relationships with Monica. If it weren’t for Linda’s sudden appearance in Jacob’s life, Monica would have undoubtedly married him eventually. Now that’s something Barbara could only dream about.
The newlyweds spent their honeymoon on the Atlantic coast, basking in the gentle Southern sun, enjoying each other’s company alongside their little son Ethan. Barbara, on the other hand, didn’t waste any time and began devising a very risky plan.
Monica also played her part in it, as she was still determined to sway the situation in her favor. Two days before Jacob, Linda, and Ethan were supposed to come home from their trip, Monica came to see Mrs. Nelson and handed her a small vial with a pinkish substance inside.
“Is this what we need? You know we can’t afford to make a mistake,” Barbara said.
Monica smiled mysteriously and then added, “Yes, this is exactly what we need. You won’t find this substance in pharmacies because it’s not licensed. I had it brought from Mexico. Add a little to her food or her drink, and she will become completely incoherent. It will look like she’s gone insane.”
Barbara raised her eyebrow in surprise. “Wow, what an interesting concoction. But is it safe? I don’t want a lethal outcome, just a temporary clouding of judgment so that Jacob could see who he married, and then it won’t take long for him to divorce her.”
“Don’t worry, Mrs. Nelson. This substance is safe and chemical-free; it’s entirely natural. They say that the juice of this plant was used by the Incas for rituals they held to communicate with spirits,” Monica reassured her.
A pleased smile appeared on Barbara’s face. This was exactly what she needed; this way, they would make Jacob’s marriage crumble to pieces.
The Tables Turn
Of course, the newlyweds had no idea about any of this and were sure that they would start their happy family life upon returning home. But Barbara Nelson had other plans.
Seizing the opportunity when Linda stepped into another room to answer the phone, her mother-in-law discreetly opened the vial provided by Monica and poured about a quarter of its contents into a teacup. However, she failed to consider one important detail: her actions were reflected in the mirror that was directly across from her.
Thus, Linda unintentionally saw her mother-in-law pour something into her tea.
“Oh, so that’s what you’ve come up with. Well, all right, let’s see who wins at this game,” Linda thought, then returned to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, her mother-in-law had already set the teacup in front of her. She also placed the other cup slightly to the side, having poured tea into it for herself.
Linda thought for a brief moment and then discreetly switched the cups. She did it while Mrs. Nelson turned away to open the fridge and get some cream.
“Jacob and I are going to have a baby. This vacation in Miami worked wonders. The doctor said that I wouldn’t be able to get pregnant, but I guess they were wrong,” Linda said, smiling.
A Happy Ending
Taken aback, Barbara dropped the teacup which had been intended for her daughter-in-law.
“Pregnant?” Barbara whispered in astonishment.
She turned pale and began gasping for breath as if she were a fish washed ashore. Linda’s pregnancy turned the situation on its head. Barbara couldn’t allow herself to poison the tea of her grandchild’s mother.
Having grabbed Linda’s teacup from her hand, Mrs. Nelson immediately poured its contents down the drain. Then, with tears in her eyes, she embraced her daughter-in-law and asked for forgiveness. At that moment, she realized she didn’t want to harm this woman who was carrying her son’s child.
Linda didn’t tell her mother-in-law that she saw the vial with the mysterious substance. Why spoil their relationship over such an insignificant detail, especially when a true miracle had happened and she was expecting a child?
As it turned out later, Monica had been deceived, and the liquid in the vial was nothing but some ordinary potassium permanganate.
As for Linda, Ethan, and Jacob, they continued to live even better after this incident, since there was no one standing in the way of their happiness anymore. Meanwhile, Barbara Nelson surrounded the newlyweds with such tenderness and care that they jokingly started calling her the mother of both of them.
