My Wife Refused To Adopt Because Of “Bad Genetics.” Then We Met A Boy With My Secret Birthmark. Am I Wrong For Wanting Him?
The Heartbreaking Separation
Having heard Duncan’s idea, Chris shuddered and ran to a sister to warn her about it. To his great surprise, Nancy took this news with enviable humility.
“Don’t worry, Chris. I’m sure I’ll like it at the orphanage. At least there won’t be that nasty dungeon there,”
The girl said in an undertone and smiled reassuringly at her brother.
But the five-year-old Chris didn’t feel as optimistic about this idea as his sister did. After all, now the boy would have no one to play with and discuss the Tom and Jerry cartoon, and all of Duncan’s displeasure would now be directed at him.
Of course, deep down Chris was hoping that his mother’s boyfriend would forget about his plan and abandoned the idea of putting Nancy in an orphanage. Unfortunately, not only did Duncan not forget but even hurried to put his insidious plan into action. Meanwhile, Pamela Roberts did virtually nothing to resist the dreadful man and defend her daughter.
Realizing that he would soon part with Nancy, Chris decided to buy a gift for his sister. To do this, the boy broke his piggy bank and picked up his savings off the floor. Clutching the change in his palm, Chris ran to the nearest toy store where he bought his sister a plastic figurine of a swallow spreading its wings in flight.
Even though the toy was small and cheap, Nancy was thrilled to get it and, feeling very emotional, even kissed her brother on the cheek.
“Don’t be sad, little brother. I will definitely come back,”
The girl whispered with tears in her eyes.
Chris hugged his little sister in response and promised that he would definitely find her. Unfortunately, fate decreed that this would be the last time the brother and sister saw each other. Duncan carried out his indention and forced Pamela to take her own daughter to the orphanage.
Years of Searching
Or still two years later, the couple got tired of constantly fighting and nagging and thus decided to break up. At that point, Chris’s mother went back to abusing alcohol and didn’t do much to raise her son. This went on for several years, after which Pamela Roberts went to rehab.
She got rid of her addiction to alcohol forever. Meanwhile, the woman repeatedly tried to get her daughter back from the orphanage, but each time her application was rejected due to a moral behavior and her drinking problem.
Of course, having grown up, Chris set out to find his sister and even hired a private detective. But despite all the efforts and expenses, finding Nancy turned out to be impossible. All these years, Chris had to live knowing that he had a sister somewhere out there who ended up at the orphanage at the behest of their negligent mother.
A New Hope
And now Chris’s wife reminded him of the painful experience of his past.
“I’m sorry, honey. I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. Of course, you’re right; I should consider adopting a baby from an orphanage,”
April sat touching her husband’s shoulder.
Chris smiled reassuringly in response and looked lovingly at his wife. He was happy that April was finally ready to consider adopting a child. The first thing April did was go on the website that had all the profiles of the orphans waiting to be adopted.
Carefully studying the photographs and the children’s brief biographies, April suddenly saw something that made her heart skip a beat and her cheeks flush. The fact was that one of the profiles had a picture of a child who looked exactly like her husband at the age of five years. The same shape of the eyes, hair color, the same lips—he looked just like Chris.
“Oh God, and that mole on the neck in the shape of a heart. How is that even possible?”
April whispered in amazement and hurried to call her husband to say that Chris was stunned was to say nothing. An orphan boy named Liam was an exact copy of him as a child.
“We need to go see this little boy right away,”
Chris said in a trembling voice.
His wife nodded understandingly in response and called the director of the orphanage in order to arrange for a meeting with the boy. Fortunately, the director of the orphanage was willing to help the couple out and promised to allow them to see the boy.
The Reunion
The day that Liam and Chris met was the most important day of both of their lives.
“God, you two looked so much alike,”
April whispered in astonishment.
But when Chris came closer, he saw something on the boy’s neck that made him dizzy. The fact was that Liam had a piece of string hanging around his neck and on it there was a plastic figurine of a swallow which Chris had given his sister on the day of their parting.
“Where did you get this little thing, buddy?”
Chris asked, stammering at every word.
“Oh, this bird belonged to my mother, sir. But she died three years ago and I ended up here,”
Liam explained, sounding all grown up.
After exchanging glances with April, Chris hurried to the director of the orphanage to get the boy’s full biography of him. As it turned out, Liam’s mother died in a car accident which was caused by a drunk driver who drove into the oncoming lane. The single mother’s name was Nancy and she had been raised in an orphanage many years ago.
A Happy Ending
Having heard all this, Chris’s face changed instantly and he wearily sink into a chair. Of course, this could just be a coincidence, but the swallow figurine and the physical resemblance of Liam and Chris were obvious arguments in favor of their probable kinship. Only a DNA test could confirm or disprove this theory, which was done a couple of weeks after the first meeting between Chris, April, and Liam.
The results didn’t surprise anyone as they showed a 99 probability of kinship. Of course, after this news, Liam’s adoption was only a matter of time for Chris and April. Despite all the procedural delays and paperwork, the boy ended up at his new home just one month later.
Looking at the joyful Liam, Chris seemed to return to his childhood when he played with Nancy in the backyard and laughed contagiously at his sister’s every joke. Now the newly made father knew that he would never repeat his mother’s mistakes and, in memory of Nancy, would give her son everything he could ever need for a happy and prosperous life.
