Woman Left Her Son Among Rubble. Years Later, She Got Sick And Asked His Help

The boy thought he had nothing to lose and the two old people seemed like quiet people who really wanted to help. So he accepted the invitation.

He ran back to the abandoned house to get his backpack with his clothes. He hid the money again in another room of the place, and planned to come back every day to see if anything had moved or if he could find anyone.

The move to the couple’s home was quite smooth. In fact, the two were normal people who just wanted to help and give the boy some comfort.

As they were retired and didn’t have many obligations at home, they were always going back to the city to buy something or just to pass the time. Whenever they went downtown, James would take the opportunity to run to the abandoned house.

Everything was always the same as he had left it. Two months later, the money was still where he had hidden it.

The box was in the same position as always. So, James figured that whoever had left that amount of money hidden, would not come back for it.

He put all the bills in his backpack and went back to the house where he now lived with the two elderly people, but he didn’t say anything to either of them about what he had discovered on his first night alone. He found a place in his room that would be a perfect hiding place.

Growing Up in a New Home

The rest of James’ days were quite normal. He went to school, helped the elderly at home, ate what they ate, went for walks with them, and didn’t have to worry about coming home to any kind of threat or violence.

When he woke up at night, there were no noises of people getting sick in the bathroom and he even forgot the smell of alcohol that his mother’s vodka bottles left around the house. It was a simple life, but he felt he was with people who cared about him.

The two old men grew fond of the boy. He was smart, polite, and not a troublemaker.

He did his homework, ate well, and didn’t seem to mind living with two elderly people. The couple hoped that at some point the biological mother would knock on the door, or some authority in the municipality, but this never happened.

As far as they knew, James had not gone after her. However, James always prayed before going to sleep and always asked God to deliver his mother from the bottles of beer and vodka, and from the bad people who were after her.

Even though he had a more normal life now, he wanted his mother to be free of all those sufferings as well. Although he always appeared to be a happy and good boy at home and at school, inside he felt the pain and responsibility of having abandoned his own mother.

He didn’t know if he had done the right thing, but he had done it to avoid something worse. He found that when he studied hard or read an interesting book, these negative thoughts never bothered him.

That is why James immersed himself in the books and the workbooks. From a normal, lackluster student, he went on to be one of the best in his class, the kind that was noticed by the teachers in most subjects.

James turned 18 and finished high school. He never heard from his biological mother again and didn’t even think about it that much.

He was eventually adopted by the elderly couple, with whom he developed a strong relationship of complicity and friendship. They were his true family.

As he was still an excellent student, he thought about applying to medical school. What he wanted most was to help other people in difficulty in some way, just as he had been helped when he needed it most.

James then talked to his adoptive parents and communicated his desire to study medicine. The couple thought it was very noble of him and were sure that he would have many chances to be accepted into the course.

The Secret of the Box Revealed

The problem was that medical school was very expensive and they could not afford it. They said that they regretted that they were not rich and had a simple life, and that even a loan at the bank would be difficult, since they were old enough.

But James said that they should not worry or apologize for anything, because he might have the solution. Then he told them that just before he was taken in, he had found a huge amount of dollars in a box, and that all the money was still hidden in his room.

The couple’s mouths dropped open when the boy brought the amount to them. It was much more money together than either of them had ever seen.

James said that as a child he was afraid to talk about it, because he thought that the couple would think that he had stolen from someone or someplace and then he would no longer have their sympathy or trust. On the other hand, he was afraid that they would find out that he had taken all the money and threaten his new family.

So he preferred to just keep the money. But it had been eight years, no one came around asking about it, and James knew he had a good reason to finally use those dollars.

The couple helped the young man count how much money he had there, and they found out that it was more than enough to pay for medical school. The young man immediately separated out the college portion, and the rest he gave to his adoptive parents.

“This is for you who gave me a home, food and love. I already have what I need,”

he said.

The elderly were surprised by this attitude. They didn’t want the boy to reward them for the good deed of years ago, but they were really pleased that in all those years the boy had managed to leave that money saved, just waiting for the right time to use it for his own good and for his future.

The Journey of Doctor James

James then entered medical school and managed to finance all of his expenses on his own. His adoptive parents continued to live as usual, without having to take out loans from the bank to help their son, and without having to rack up the monthly bills to keep him studying.

Being a doctor was really the boy’s dream, and he was doing everything in his power to get there. Several years later, the boy who had to run away from home and his own mother was now a grown man and went by the title of Doctor James.
